I have a confession to make

Posted by Bug Oct. 26, 2008 @ 6:54 AM EDT

Up until now I've used this account to submit my most horrible creations, that, for some reason, felt too embarrassing to showcase, even on my over clogged main account. But now that the shit has hit the fan I feel it's time to reveal my true identity.

You see I'm acually ZekeySpaceyLizard. Many people have suspected this and it was starting to catch on so I figure I'd just let the secret out. But I sure did fool a bunch of you huh? I bet many of you are reading this and thinking "the ps3 is SURELY not better than an xbox" and thats completely natural but when you return to this post after sobering up you may begin to wonder why, WHY did you fool us all ZekeySpaceyLizard?! And to answer that question I call forth my surprise witness:

Three BIG NY animation events comming up!

Posted by Bug Sep. 17, 2008 @ 11:31 PM EDT

I felt like relaying some news over here for the 10% of the user base that acually cares about this stuff but may not have heard about it. Hopefully this isn't too short notice for some people.

and I'm too lazy to add my own commentary but I've copied and pasted the important bits.

Richard Williams at the MoMA

"Illustrated with clips from Who Framed Roger Rabbit, The Charge of the Light Brigade, A Christmas Carol, Raggedy Ann & Andy, the animated titles from The Return of the Pink Panther, award-winning commercials, segments from The Animator's Survival Kit, and more."

Museum of Modern Art
Monday, September 22, 2008
7:00 p.m.
Program 100 min.
Theater 2 (The Roy and Niuta Titus Theater 2), T2

The State of NY Animated Features

"A panel discussion on the state of NY animated features with panelists Emily Hubley, Daniel Kanemoto, Bill Plympton, Michael Sporn and Tatia Rosenthal.

Never before in the history of animation have so many indie animated features been produced. We're currently in the middle of an animation revolution and this panel will try to give some perspective to this unique moment in the history of the art form. How are these features being made? Who's supporting them? Where is all this headed?"

School Of Visual Arts
Tuesday, September 23, 2008 (yes its a day after)
7:00 PM
209 East 23rd Street

3rd Fl, Amphitheater

First ever One Plus Hub event in NY

"The One Plus Hub is an animation networking group which was launched in the fall of 2005. The One Plus Hub is comprised of over 450 members from the animation community at large. On a quarterly basis, animation producers, directors, writers, executives, agents, composers and managers in all media (films, television series, web, and mobile entertainment) come together to network and discuss the issues that surround the industry today and the future of animation from a business, creative and overall global perspective. Animation talent and executives from many studios are regular attendees at One Plus Hub events including Disney, Warner Bros, Dreamworks Animation, Universal Studios, Fox Animation, Sony Animation, Nickelodeon, and the Weinstein Company. Additionally, small, cutting edge, independent animation houses such as Six Point Harness, Wild Brain, Blur Studios, and Titmouse have become involved as hosts and participants in networking events."

M1-5 Lounge
October 16th, 2008
7:00pm
52 Walker Street
New York.

Oh and you gotta be over 21 for that one. The event at SVA is free to attend so there really isn't any reason not to go. I'll try my best to make it to all of these so SEEYA THERE or something.

what im up to

Posted by Bug Aug. 24, 2008 @ 2:39 PM EDT

this cartoon is moving like molasses. im not dead I just havent really checked the voice files in a while cause I do want to finish this cartoon and thats about all I want to work on at the moment. I did rewrite the script a couple of times though since I hadn't looked at it in like a month and saw some things that needed changes. Ill probably revise it again once this cartoon is done.

once the animation is done coloring and background work should move pretty briskly. if i hadn't elaborated on this yet this is was supossed to be something that i would start and complete while waiting for voices but its still not done and probably wont be for a while. i dont want to call it a 'teaser' but thats basically what it is. its just a small silent cartoon about hammer and nail in the dessert and their relationship with fuel.

cartoon voice guide + new collab

Posted by Bug Jul. 6, 2008 @ 11:05 AM EDT

The collab is out. Click here to see.

Here are a bunch of cartoon voices I like. This isn't all of them and I'll add to it if I remember more but here they are in no particular preference. Maybe after listening to these it'll give you some ideas on how to voice act for me. I'm not expecting anyone to be at a professional level but try to keep this standard in mind.

Bullwinkle and Boris (I like a lot of the voices in the Jay Ward cartoons actually)

.

Robotnik

.

The Mario crew doesn't say much but Charles Martinet does the best "wahoos" "yipees" and "wahahahas" in the video game world.

.

More Marinet

.

Joker

.

Harley

.

The Cow/George Liquor

.

Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo and Hercule. (the only anime I can think of where I actually liked the voices)

.

Koopa

.

Mel Blancs Looney Tunes

.

Progress on the cartoon is in a pretty dismal state. After thinking I had the right voices (based off some great auditions!) everyone managed to fuck it up some way or another. Either people can't remember how to do the voice they did in the audition, the lines came back full of puffs and pops or people rushed through the lines as fast as possible or didn't get back to me at all. This is weird, because these guys sounded enthused.

Look, I know I said I wasn't looking for outstanding quality but this cartoon and these characters mean a lot to me. We will all have to live with this cartoon for the rest of our lives so why not do the best we can? Please try to give this your best effort so that I can give mine. It's very difficult to hang a good animated performance on a bad track. It's just not fun and nobody wants to do it.

So what I'm going to do is re-open the auditions. This time, after viewing the requirements, you can choose to do some of the sample lines or just send me a reel. If I like what I hear I'll get back to you and have you try some more samples. Then I'll know who to cast for sure.

Here is the previous character outline. Everything still stands except for one character/scene that was cut.

VOICE ACTING REQUIREMENTS

After listening to the samples I got last time I better make this perfectly clear.

Do NOT try out or send anything if you specialize in the following three categories:

Anime Voices

"Cool" Voices

Cool Anime Voices

I don't care if you do those but it's not what I'm looking for. I'll never be looking for those, ever. I NEED people who are funny, can talk in a funny voice, and can relax and not just rush through everything! Bonus points if you are a creative type who is constantly coming up with new creative funny voices, and actually likes cartoons. Of course this doesn't mean that if all you can do is a funny voice that I'll cast you. You will need acting skills.

I should explain the situation clearly as well. All of my actions are drawn AROUND the voice. Just like how Mel Blanc explains in the clip. Its true many people don't know this, even many aspiring voice actors! (They also don't know who Mel Blanc is either)

That right there should tell you how important voices are to cartoons. People think I can just do whatever and then plop the voice on top of it as if it'll fit. Of course I could hand out little timelines for you to squeeze voices into but I'd rather not do that, don't make me do that.

Sometimes I think the only people I can truly rely on are other flash authors. More than half the time they are actually better actors and since they make their own characters they realize how important the voices are to cartoons. Guys like Hans Von Harken and The-Swain are really great at this.

Also DO NOT resend any samples you sent last time! I'm going to give everything another look.

And of course it'll be great if you have good recording equipment.

Send samples or reels over by PM or email at brandonpclark-at-gmail.com and try to tell me you sent it in the comments or I might miss it, especially if it's by email.

The deadline is August 1st.

Also don't be this guy:

.

In the meantime I've started a shorter Hammer + Nail cartoon that doesn't require any voices and it is going quite smoothly. It'll give me something to work on while I shift through this stuff and also because I desperately need to put out new material.
